Heathrow Airport is situated near a village called Heath Row. This airport was not used for international flights as an Aerodrome named Harmondsworth Aerodrome. Due to the overcrowding of flights at Gatwick and Stansted Airports, Heathrow was officially opened as an international airport on 25th March 1946 as London Airport. Later, in September 1966 this airport was named Heathrow Airport to avoid the confusion between Heathrow and other Airports like Gatwick and Stansted that serve the international air traffic in London.
The founder of Heathrow Airport is Richard Fairey. He was a British aircraft builder and aero engineer who built this massive aerodrome in 1930 on a 150-acre plot. Richard Fairey paid £15,000 to the Vicar of Harmondsworth to build his private airport to test and assemble aircraft.
