In addition to owning London Luton Airport Ltd, which owns the airport, Luton Borough Council also owns London Luton Airport Operations Ltd (LLAOL), a corporation that operates the airport.
On July 16, 1938, the property was transformed into an airport. During World War II, Royal Air Force aircraft utilized the airfield. In 1952, the Luton Airport began general aviation flying instruction and commercial operations.
