Northwood is a town in Ruislip and was first recorded in 1565 by King's College, Cambridge. In 1881 the population reached 257, and in 1841 there were 41 people with 62 households. In 1892 Carew sold most of the property to George Wieland. By 1902 the population had reached 2,500 with 500 homes and 36 business stores. Emmanuel Church opened in 1904 and was founded by Sir Frank Elgood; Ruislip and Pinner Hospital was built in 1926 as the first First World War Memorial. Northwood is the site of Northwood's headquarters in Eastbury Park and was taken over by the RAF in 1939 as part of RAF Coastal Command.
